Yahoo! buys gaming infrastructure company
Yahoo! is buying things like a boss. Following the Yumblr! deal it seems everyone’s favourite ailing internet giant is spending some of that awesome money it has.
The company has announced that it has acquired PlayerScale, a Silicon Valley-based company that makes software infrastructure for cross-platform gaming.
The four year old company isn’t a tech industry maverick, it’s not sexy like Tumblr or Instagram but according to the company they make things easier for game developers.
How? By giving “publishers and aggregators the ability to scale titles across casual, social and mobile platforms in a rapid and seamless manner”.
According to Yahoo! it will continue to support and grow the company’s technology that is used by 150-million players worldwide.
The team has built an incredible gaming platform that is used by over 150 million players worldwide. We intend to continue to support and grow PlayerScale’s technology, and we look forward to building great new experiences on Yahoo! using the PlayerScale platform.
Though the financial details of the deal hasn’t be disclosed, Playerscale seems to be very happy with the acquisition and nothing will change it seems.
“Our goal has always been to help developers build the best possible games, without having to worry about building and scaling the infrastructure required to operate today’s biggest successes. In working with the folks at Yahoo!, it has become clear that we share this passion,” writes Jesper Jensen, PlayerScale’s chief executive.
Since taking over, Yahoo! Marissa Mayer has been on a buying spree and working hard to take the company from an internet veteran on the sidelines back into the playing field.
So far it seems that its not a straight acqui-hire and both companies will carry on business as usual.
