Burning Hot: Google’s internet balloons, the Lumia 920 and WooCommerce
What do giant solar powered balloons, Nokia’s near-industructable smartphone and ecommerce plugin WooCommerce have in common? They’re some of our favourite stories on the ‘burn sites this week.
We’ve rounded them up in the fourth episode of our new show Burning Hot, which gives you a quick look into the stories the Burn Media team loved writing and reading recently. First up is the crazy sci-fi rumour turned real life story of Google’s Project Loon, which hopes to offer internet access to regions which have yet to be connected to the web. The balloons could theoretically offer billions of people who don’t have internet access the opportunity to get online with 3G level speeds.
Burn Media’s editor Mich Atagana also reviewed the weighty but beautiful Nokia Lumia 920, which showed her the serious strengths of Windows 8 and reinforced the Finnish manufacturer’s reputation for Armageddon-proof devices. Meanwhile, on Ventureburn, we documented the story of South African success story WooThemes, which is helping lower the difficulties of starting out for aspiring online store owners.
