Yet another Apple iStore raided by bandits in Cape Town
Last evening, shortly before Canal Walk mall closed its doors, armed men stormed and robbed the iStore. The robbery follows many similar incidents that have occurred in the Western Cape and Gauteng, South Africa.
Robbers apparently left the store with Apple iPhones, iPads, Macs worth tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of Rands. Two months ago crooks reportedly made off with over R1-million worth of Apple products.
iStores and malls across the country are definitely going to have to beef up security as this is not the first incident of late. Cresta Mall in Gauteng was also targeted in recent months on three separate occasions, with the mall’s iStore hit during one of these incidents. Other malls that have been targeted include Parow, Somerset West, Blue Route and Zevenwacht near Stellenbosch.
EWN reports that whilst robbers were fleeing Canal Walk they shot and wounded a security guard, and customer was also assaulted.
The raid comes on the back of news that Apple is once again the most valuable brand this year. Interbrand has released its rankings for 2014 with Apple siting at the top spot with a brand value of US$118,9-billion.
