Weekly Round Up #20: Facebook Messenger, Opel hipster cars, Huawei mystery, and Samsung S6 price
Welcome to Weekly Roundup, our podcast discussing the tech trends, innovation and news from the last few days.
This week on BurnCast, Stuart Thomas, Jacques Coetzee, Lethabo Mokgatle and Andy Walker speak about Facebook Messenger’s arrival the web, Huawei’s hint that it will launch a device that captures the wonder of the sun, Jottr’s promise to tailor content according to one’s reading patterns, Opel launching cars for hipsters, and the fact that the Samsung S6 and S6 edge will cost you an arm and a leg.
Facebook has been making changes to Messenger, making it in the process one platform to watch. The latest move by Facebook is moving Messenger to a dedicated web interface. But is it offering anything new, something that is not in the market?
Opel has decided to name its latest cars after people, a cute move that however has led to some funny names that are a minefield for memes and jokes. One of these is the Adam, named after the company’s founder. The team chats about the car’s design, price, and the surprising amount of tech that’s been crammed into it.
The team also debates the prices of the Samsung S6 and S6 edge and if whether they would buy it or settle for another mobile device.
What is Huawei launching, something that captures the wonder of the sun, it has said. Its approach to the 15 April launch has been brilliant and now Gearburn is waiting to update you as soon as we know of the details.
Jottr meanwhile is a startup whose founders built it without ever meeting, promises to generate content based on the user’s reading patterns. The team talks about the possibilities that tech affords people, that a startup does not need to have a physical office, in fact, as Jottr has proved the co-workers do not even have to be in the same continent.
