Apple sells 13 million iPhones in just three days

On 25 September 2015, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus went on sale. As per usual, queues outside selected retailers were long. Three days later Apple sold more than 13 million iPhone 6s and 6s plus models.

This is, the company points out, a new record in the history of iPhones. Compared to last year’s numbers, Apple sold 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in its opening weekend and 9 million units of the iPhone 5S and 5C in 2013.

Last week, Apple claimed that iOS 9 was on more than 50% of its mobile devices in less than a week after launching. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus come with iOS 9 installed, meaning that the number of iOS 9 adoption is likely to be higher this time round.

What has been popular with users with the new iPhone models is the interface with 3D Touch, which senses when a user presses on the display and offers different actions. Other new features on the models are the Live Photos, a 5 megapixel front camera and a new 12 megapixel iSight camera from the 8 megapixel in iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

“Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can’t wait to bring iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

It is worth noting that other Android alternatives, mainly the LG G3, G4, Samsung S6 and S6 Edge boast 13 and 16 megapixel cameras respectively, but what has always been the iPhone’s camera advantage is its ability to handle low light and colour.

Apple says that customers who buy either the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus at an Apple retail store will be offered free personal setup service, helping them customise their iPhones.

On 9 October 2015, the iPhone models will be available in 40 countries. These include the following: Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Maldives, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.

On 10 October 2015, the new models will launch in countries like Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. By year end, the new iPhones will be available in over 130 countries.
