Less than a week after release, iOS 9 hits a record 50% adoption
According to Apple, iOS 9 is on more than 50% of iOS devices less than a week after launching, making it the fastest adoption rate in Apple history. After 24 hours of its release, iOS 9 was installed on estimated 12% of devices.
The new version of iOS was released on 16 September 2015. Compared to the adoption of Lollipop for Android phones, which in five months only reached 12 % adoption, iOS 9 is outperforming it by a huge margin.
Apple did not provide details on which devices iOS 9 is present in. The OS is compatible with the earliest iPhone models, iPad 2 and newer. At the launch of iOS 9 on 9 September 2015, Apple introduced an improved OS, with a powerful search, an improved Siri, News app, detailed transit information in Maps, new capabilities in Apple Pay, and multitasking features.

According to Apple, iOS 9 also requires less space to install and has advanced security features to further protect your devices.
Apple’s new devices, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, only go on sale this coming Friday, 25 September 2015, and the adoption of iOS 9 should go up as both will run iOS 9 out of the box. The two devices have features that might entice consumers to buy them thus pushing up iOS 9 adoption. These include features like 3D Touch, Live Photos and 12-megapixel iSight camera.
“Customer response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been incredibly positive, we can’t wait to get our most advanced iPhones ever into customers’ hands starting this Friday,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
The smartphones will be available in 12 countries, inlcuding Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and the US.
