Facebook tests a dedicated Shopping feed in a bid to revolutionise shopping

Facebook has introduced a feature called Shopping feed in the favourites navigation menu on the company’s mobile app. Shopping feed will make the way in which people connect to brands and products on mobile a lot easier and quicker. The company says that a lot of users are spending a lot of time on their mobile, connecting, discovering, and sharing and this presents businesses with the unique opportunity to reach consumers on mobile.

The Shopping feed aggregates posts and photos about products that are on sale from retailers onto the users’ mobile app feeds. The feature is accessible from the favourites section on the navigation menu. From here users will be presented with a feed of products that businesses have chosen to highlight on their pages. A user’s feed is tailored according to their connections, likes and interests.

According to Facebook, users do not only come to the platform to connect with family and friends but with products and brands.

The number of users discovering new products in the News Feed, on Pages or in Groups is around 50%. Facebook will curate content for this experience, place it onto the New Feed, thus making the experience of discovering new products a lot easier for users.

Facebook is also introducing ‘canvas’, a new native way to browse products from ads. Canvas allows users to browse different products in a fast loading and full-screen experience from which they can browse through a variety of products, even before making a purchase the on retailer’s website. This is an important move as often slow loading websites turn consumers away.

Shopping feed is currently being tested in the US and Canvas will only be tested over the coming weeks.
