Multiple users report mass Twitter outage [update]
Update: Twitter connectivity has been restored for us at least in South Africa, including Twitter.com and Tweetdeck. If you’re still experiencing issues, drop us a comment below.
One of the world’s most popular web services has just gone offline.
Based on posts on Facebook, Tumblr and Reddit, the site dropped off the grid just before 12:00 South African time. The last time Twitter’s domain faced an outage was in September this year. The outage lasted for about an hour.
In the same month, the world also experienced a mass Skype outage as well, which plunged much of the conference call world into disarray.
This time, it seems that connectivity is spotty at best, but users from South Africa to the UK are reporting outages on Twitter’s website, and other sites that use its API, including Tweetdeck.
Attempts to access the website were greeted with a blank page, or the infamous 503: service unavailable error.
Twitter sees an estimated 6000 tweets every second, which makes up around 500-million tweets per day.
All Twitter services, including its Android and iOS apps, are currently down. According to Down Right Now, the Twitter website’s current status suggests that users will experience a “Likely Service Disruption”.
Updates to follow.
