How bad is Mattel’s Max Steel trailers? Ask YouTube
After LEGO showed that even toy makers can make huge profits in cinema, another is now getting in on the business. After American company Mattel announced that it’s working on a Max Steel flick back in 2009, we finally have a trailer of the finished product.
And… we’ve some mixed reactions.
Max Steel will look at the protagonist’s origin story, from emotionally-downtrodden American boy, to a wall-punching, rage-screaming super kid thanks in part to aliens. Sounds pretty good right? Well, that’s where it starts and ends really.
The international trailer on YouTube was likened to a “fake fan trailer”, while others are calling it “a steaming pile of shit”.
Max Steel will look at the protagonist’s origin story which largely involves aliens, huffing and puffing
It garnered over 400 000 views thus far, with 41% of total reactions marked as downvotes. The US trailer has more success though, viewed over 700 000 times, with just 18% downvotes, albeit with less overall reactions.
But Max Steel, as bad as the trailers are, does show glimpses of promise.
Max Steel, played by Ben Witchell, does a good job with what he’s given (considering that he’s likely directed to “shout loudly like every other superhero” and “look in wonderment at your new abilities like Spiderman”).
Still, if you’re a fan or at least interested in the Mattel cinematic universe’s latest move, or need a new “so good it’s bad” summer flick, check out the international and US trailers below.
The movie debuts in October 2016 in the US.
