Oracle buys DNS services provider Dyn

Enterprise services company Oracle has purchased DNS and internet services provider Dyn.

The financial details of the purchase was not made public, but former Fortune writer Dan Primack believes it could be “north of US$600-million.”

According to Oracle’s product development president, Thomas Kurian, Dyn is “the leading cloud-based Internet Performance and DNS provider that monitors, controls, and optimizes Internet applications and cloud services to deliver faster access, reduced page load times, and higher end-user satisfaction.”

Among internet users though, Dyn has become a bit of an infamous name this year. Last month’s DDoS on its services left sites and services like Twitter, Netflix, and Pinterest crippled and inaccessible to the wider internet.

Dyn has had a difficult year, but the Oracle acquisition is at least some icing on its cake

But this attack or its effects doesn’t seem to bother its buyer too much, largely thanks to the positives of the Dyn deal.

“Adding Dyn’s best-in-class DNS solution extends the Oracle cloud computing platform and provides enterprise customers with a one-stop shop for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS),” explains Kurian.

“Dyn’s immensely scalable and global DNS is a critical core component and a natural extension to our cloud computing platform.”

The internet giant notes that it will relook Dyn’s roadmap, so we’ll have to wait and see just how the company changes its trajectory.
