People watch one billion hours of YouTube every day
YouTube revealed in a blog post yesterday that its users are watching a billion hours of YouTube every single day.
A few years ago, the company decided that instead of focusing on complete video views, it was going to look specifically at how long viewers stay tuned to videos — something that Facebook has picked up with its own videos recently.
By focusing on time, YouTube is able to provide more specific data to advertisers and content creators, making it easier for them to understand what keeps viewers interested in their content.
“We thought it would help us make YouTube a more engaging place for creators and fans,” the post reads.
Because of this change, YouTube was able to notice last year when users began watching more than a billion hours of content every day. It would take one person 100 000 years to watch one billion hours.
More people watch YouTube content laden with kittens and fails than porn on Pornhub every day
“100 000 years ago, our ancestors were crafting stone tools and migrating out of Africa while mammoths and mastodons roamed the Earth,” YouTube claims.
If you watched one billion hours of Gangnam Style, you would have to watch it 15-billion times. You would have to hear the phrase “oppa Gangnam style” 180-billion times.
Even if the entire world population sat down to watch one billion hours of Gangnam Style, you individually would have to hear the phrase around 25 times. Marx would be impressed.
Last year, Pornhub only managed to average 12.6-million hours a day. Yes, that does mean that cats, YouTubers who shout and fail videos beat out porn by a 987-million hours every day.
The world is beautiful.
