Corbyn vs May vs Twitter: UK elects a hung parliament, the internet reacts
Yesterday, the United Kingdom voted in their snap election called for by Prime Minister Theresa May. May, who was hoping to increase her Conservative Party’s majority in the House of Commons, has seen the opposite take effect and the UK are now looking at a hung parliament.
Their biggest opposition, the Labour Party, has gained 29 seats, assuring that the Conservatives do not have a house majority despite their lead. This could lead to May’s resignation.
Naturally, the liberal-leaning Twittersphere took to this news quite well.

May’s hubris has come back to bite her. Any instability caused by a #hungparliament can be entirely blamed on her

Many were worried about Brenda from Bristol, who went viral for her frustration at the number of elections the country has had to endure the past few years.
Who’s going to tell Brenda?! #GE2017 #exitpoll #hungparliament https://t.co/axX6sypQzp

Twitter also took the time to congratulate the youth, with reports saying that the 18 to 24 year old demographic saw a 72% voter turnout.
Youth vote was at 72% compared to 43% in 2015! In short we did it! @jeremycorbyn #GE2017 #hungparliament #JeremyCorbyn4PM

#BBCelection Tory on BBC blames youth vote for loss. Literally saying they would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for those pesky kids

And, of course, even the celebrities got in on the action.
Actor Douglas Booth took to Twitter to defend the youth from allegations of selfishness.
Anyone else find it insulting Conservative MPs keep suggesting the ‘youth’ simply came out & voted because they wanted free tuition? #ge2017

Comedian Joe Lycett, who posted a host of images of himself dressed up as May in the run-up to the election, decided on a simple condescending tweet.
