Republican senator Ted Cruz was the laughing stock of Twitter on Tuesday, after the politician’s Twitter account liked a pornographic video from another account.

The account in question, the aptly-named @SexuallPosts, posted a video to the social network featuring two women and a man engaging in sexual activities. While over 520 people liked the post, Cruz was among the most influential with over three-million followers.

“Thanks for watching ted,” @SexuallPosts tweeted, taking full advantage of the blunder.

It also changed its bio to this gem: “Follow for the Same Porn @TedCruz Watches.”

Twitter users soon noticed the unashamed like, which remained on Cruz’s profile for more than half an hour. Unfortunately for the Texan lawmaker, this was more than enough time for Twitter to ready the memes and sass.

Celebrities joined in on the commentary, with Zach Braff among the most vocal.

“When you were thinking of watching porn, but now you’re torn because the Ted Cruz tweets are 🔥,” he tweets.

“Soon Ted Cruz will wake up to this nightmarish PR situation. Wonder if he’ll be able to beat it?” Adam Best artfully joked.

Some users wondered how Cruz is dealing with it all, and what fallout would be beyond the confines of the internet.

Others awaited an official announcement from Cruz himself.

But it wasn’t the politician who made the first announcement. Cruz’s senior communications officer Catherine Frazier took to the social network to clear the air, suggesting that the post had been removed from the profile, and reported to Twitter.

Frazier didn’t divulge who liked the post, or whether there was a security breach.

Although it might’ve ruined his week on social media, the like by Cruz has seemingly increased search results for SexuallPosts. Google Trends showed a marked increase in searches for “SexuallPosts” and “Ted Cruz porn” over the past few hours.

While on Twitter, it seems that some are following in Cruz’s stead.
