White House issues tickets for the ‘State of the Uniom’

We’ve all made a spelling error or two in our time, but there are a few occasions when you really, really want to make sure you proofread your work.

Wedding invitations fall into this category, and some would say official tickets to the 115th US State of the Union address do too.

Or should we say “State of the Uniom”.

We can’t remember the South African government ever getting it this wrong before SONA.

After internet users and international media highlighted the gaffe, tickets were reprinted, likely spell-checked repeatedly, and redistributed to guests. But not before some on Twitter grabbed the mistake, and beat the hell out of it.

Even Google has noted an uptick in searches for the erroneous title.

And that’s seemingly not the only poor use of language on the tickets.

The address will be livestreamed on multiple YouTube channels, beginning around 4am SAST Wednesday 31 January. Or watch it on C-SPAN’s YouTube stream below.

And for those wondering, the official hashtag is #SOTU — at least you can’t really spell that incorrectly.

Edit: an earlier version of this article stated an incorrect scheduled time and date for South Africa. This has since been corrected. A YouTube embed has also been added.
