Rain changes its name to ‘Go Proteas’ for the Cricket World Cup
Don’t be alarmed, Rain users. The South African national cricket team didn’t just buy the data-only network. Instead, Rain has changed its network name in support of the Proteas ahead of the Cricket World Cup.
The change was noticed by MyBroadband’s Jan Vermeulen on Friday.
Instead of your phone displaying “Rain” as its network name in your phone’s status bar, it will now show “Go Proteas”. The Rain team members are reportedly big cricket fans and wanted to “show our support for our boys”.
The Cricket World Cup kicked off yesterday in the UK, with the Proteas facing off against hosts England. And judging by the result, it seems the national team will need all the support they can get.
