Instagram adds new features to celebrate Pride month
Instagram on Monday revealed new features and hashtags aimed at commemorating Pride month.
“We’re rolling out colorful tools to help our community celebrate, updating our gender options in Profile and releasing an LGBTQ+ teen guide,” the company revealed.
With the new hashtag #UntoldPride, the platform will be documenting “history, empowering queer expression, and fostering safety”.
The hashtag is meant to represent a space where users can share their individual stories and experiences with the wider online community.
Other related hashtags such as #pride2019 and #lgbtq will also trigger new features on the platform.
“When you use these hashtags in Feed this month, they will be displayed in a rainbow gradient,” Instagram explained.
Story rings will also be highlighted in rainbow colours when the hashtags are used.
On Profile, users can now identify themselves as “gender non-conforming” on the platform as well.
In addition to these new features, Instagram will also feature stories from LGBTQ+ creators as well as provide access to a well-being guide dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth.
These Pride features will roll out during this week.
