Tech Relief, an initiative that aims to help underprivileged youth gain technological learning tools, has launched in South Africa.

The programme, led by SA tech startup Black Beard and female tech initiative GirlCode, “aims to collect and distribute ‘old’ technological devices that are collecting dust in drawers around the world”.

“These still equipped yet slightly outdated devices can be used to address the burning need for technological learning tools in educational institutions and initiatives especially in underprivileged areas,” the duo explained in a press release sent to Memeburn on Monday.

Devices like iPads, tablets, laptops and smartphones are all accepted.

Sponsors will be able to track who the devices are given to and then watch the progress and education path of the recipient knowing that they have made an enormous impact, with GirlCode providing the accountability in the process,” the released added.

Those interested in donating their tech can visit the Tech Relief website, where NGOs or individual donors can sign up.
