Applying for a smart ID or passport in Cape Town but don’t want to visit Home Affairs?

FNB on Thursday announced that, through a partnership with the Department of Home Affairs, customers can now pick up their new documents at its Portside branch in central Cape Town.

According to the bank, the Portside branch is the first beyond Gauteng to offer the service, and fourth in the country.

“Our customers in Cape Town will now be able to apply online and collect their Smart IDs and passports at the FNB Portside branch,” said Lee-Anne van Zyl, FNB’s points of presence chief exec.

“To date, we have issued 208 281 Smart ID cards and passports since the inception of a partnership. This is made up of 101 006 Smart ID Cards and 107 275 passports that have been issued via our branches,” she added.

How to apply and collect

Users can apply and book for their smart ID cards and passports online through eHome Affairs, the department’s online portal.

“Once the application has been processed and payment has been made online, the customer selects an appointment to visit one of the designated branches for finger print verification,” FNB added.

Users will then receive an SMS when their documents are ready for collection.

FNB notes that KwaZulu Natal and Limpopo are the next provinces that will receive the service, which is currently also available in Centurion Lifestyle, Merchant Place, and Lynnwood, all in Gauteng.
