BurnCast #15: Social media on the Oscar Pistorius court case finale
Welcome to BurnCast, our weekly podcast that discusses tech trends, innovation and news.
This week saw paralympic icon Oscar Pistorius get sentenced five years imprisonment for killing his former girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. On this edition of BurnCast, we rounded up the whole editorial team — Andy Walker, Stuart Thomas, Michelle Atagana, Jacques Coetzee — and brand manager Jason Bechervaise, to discuss how the event played out on Twitter.
While there was outrage on Twitter and other social channels about the judge’s ultimate verdict and sentence, many acted out in humour (there’s always a meme involved). Apart from the #OscarTrial and #OscarPistorius hashtags, #ThingsLongerThanOscarsSentence became the name of the game.
