Steve Hofmeyr sacrifices his weekend sport for DStv decoder revenge
Steve Hofmeyr’s not going to be able to watch sport for a while. The Afrikaans singer this week took to Facebook with a video of some hardware violence in a fit of revenge towards Multichoice.
The owner of Showmax and DStv in April announced that it will no longer broadcast Hofmeyr content on its platforms, this after the Afrikaans singer’s laundry list of trolling and race-baiting comments and tweets grew too long.
In response, Hofmeyr destroyed his DStv decoder and hurled his satellite dish off the roof of his house. The clip was posted to Facebook, and it’s strangely entertaining.
This comes after a fan of his destroyed his dish on Wednesday.
He called on his fans to boycott the company too, and instead buy an “Android Box TV” or “pay-to-watch platforms”.
Hofmeyr’s clearly hoping that destroying DStv equipment will become a meme of sorts. He’s offering R10 000 to one of his fans for doing the same and posting the video on Facebook before June. And the post’s commenters are obliging, with one using his satellite dish as a fire pit (good upcycling idea, actually), and others using the more traditional “destroy thing with hammer” technique.
While we don’t condone destroying any fully-functioning electronic equipment for funsies, we understand that some people just love hitting things with hammers. That said, perhaps consider donating your equipment to those less fortunate?
