‘Avengers: Endgame’ passes ‘Titanic’ as second biggest film in history
Well, that didn’t take long. Only in its second week, Avengers: Endgame has surpassed Titanic as the second-most lucrative movie in history.
Racking up a $2.188-billion gross total since its debut, the final film in the Infinity Saga has surpassed Titanic by a little more than a million bucks. The 1997 James Cameron-directed classic Titanic was previously the biggest movie in history, but was surpassed by Cameron’s other blockbuster Avatar in 2009.
Speaking of which, Endgame is now just $600-million short of Avatar‘s total of $2.788-billion, according to BoxOfficeMojo.
It’s not clear where Endgame will eventually stall, but considering its current pace and that its a little over two weeks old, don’t be surprised if it’s the first movie in history to crack the $3-billion mark globally.
Avengers: Endgame opened globally last week, shooting straight into 18th place in the all time grossing charts, making more than R30-million at the South African box office in its opening weekend.
