Livestream: watch South Africa swear in new MPs, president in Parliament
If you’re wondering why Cape Town’s traffic is horrid today, the first sitting of the National Assembly is currently in session, and the sixth parliament is being sworn in.
Beginning at 10.30am, it’s a fairly processional affair, with each parliamentarian taking their oath of office in front of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. Of course, it reminiscent of a graduation ceremony, and some members do put in an effort.
The main event later today, will see the president of South Africa sworn in too. However, there’s a minute chance that it may not be Cyril Ramaphosa: the president must still be elected by the members of parliament.
Either way, if you’re into drama, or watching politicians promise that they will work for you and the betterment of the country, enjoy the livestream below.
