WhatsApp will take legal action against spammers, starting December
WhatsApp on Thursday announced new steps it will take to fight the spread of spam on the messaging platform.
In addition to banning defaulting companies and individuals, WhatsApp will now be taking legal action against those who violate its Terms of Service by spreading spam.
This will include the spread of “automated or bulk messaging” and “non-personal use” of the platform.
WhatsApp will identify these violations using machine learning, as well as “off-platform evidence” from public online spaces.
Simply put, users who create or share fake news and advertisements via messages on the platform will face WhatsApp’s legal wrath.
The take down will begin on 7 December 2019.
“We are committed to reinforcing the private nature of our platform and keeping users safe from abuse,” the company said.
