Bloemfontein joins Seacom’s network thanks to new node

Great news, Bloemfontein. You’re now part of Seacom’s cable network.

The organisation on Wednesday announced that South Africa’s judicial capital’s node has been switched on, giving Free State businesses access to Seacom’s products.

This includes “uncontended, unthrottled Seacom internet connectivity with direct low latency routes to public and cloud environments” to servers in South Africa and abroad.

According to Seacom CEO Byron Clatterbuck, Bloemfontein was always on the organisation’s map.

“When acquiring the national FibreCo network, it was always SEACOM’s intention to drive the expansion of services outside of the major metros currently serviced,” he stated in a release.

“Bloemfontein was identified as a key market where we could strengthen our
service offerings, geographic network reach and broaden our market position based on this.”

While the city’s now connected to Seacom’s undersea cable network, redundancy’s also provided thanks to the WACS cable which runs along Africa’s western coastline.

Seacom’s Bloemfontein node becomes one of the system’s more than 60 nodes across the east coast of Africa, India and Europe.
