This is Twitter’s new stance on ‘deep fakes’
Twitter is working on a new policy for “synthetic or manipulated media” on the platform, also known as “deep fake” content.
In a blog post seeking feedback from users, the company on Monday revealed that it will now identify, monitor and remove posts on Twitter that are fake and misleading.
In fact, deep fake posts will now feature a “notice” labelling it as manipulated material and users will be warned before they share the fake news.
Additionally, Twitter will also link users to relevant information about the authenticity of the content.
“If a Tweet including synthetic or manipulated media is misleading and could threaten someone’s physical safety or lead to other serious harm, we may remove it,” the company added.
Twitter users can also take part in a survey ahead of the new policy’s upcoming launch next month.
In an effort to maintain authenticity on the platform, the company recently banned all political advertising on Twitter and revealed several new privacy-related features it will work on next year.
