Twitter down across all devices, now back up [Update]
Let the panic ensue. Twitter is down across all devices.
The news was confirmed by website Down for Everyone or Just Me, which monitors websites to see whether or not they’re down.
According to Mashable, the social network was briefly up before going back down again.
This isn’t just a fail whale type of “down” either.
Users visiting Twitter via the web will see a “no data received” message on their browsers, while third-party apps are giving out the message “Twitter API is busy”.
The social network has issued a statement explaining that it is working on the problem:
Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.
Update: The issue is ongoing and engineers are working to resolve it.
Oddly enough. the status appears to have been tweeted over 3 000 times.
Update: The social network appears to be back up.
The outage is reportedly the social network’s worst in eight months. In an update on their official blog, Twitter’s VP of engineering, Mazen Rawashdeh, said that the outage was the result of a cascading bug in their infrastructure. They reverted back to a more stable version of Twitter to fix the problem.
Naturally people took straight back to tweeting after the social network came back online:
Twitter went down for like 2 hours for me. Felt like 2006. Almost posted to MySpace.

While Twitter was down I realised 2 things – 1. I’m addicted 2. I like the people I follow here a lot more than some of the people on FB.

I can just picture a bunch of geeks at Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, sweating and shouting “It’s still down! Fix it!”
