Is Nedbank about to launch an app?
Nedbank may be about to follow in the footsteps of First National Bank (FNB) by launching a mobile app.
The large South African bank tweeted a hint that it may be about to join the world of banking apps from its official account this morning:
We are tweeting live from the #NedbankLeadership Conference. Exciting digital news through the day. Will it be ‘appy’ news?
— Nedbank (@Nedbank) June 25, 2012
When FNB launched its app in 2011, it was a first for South Africa. The bank also has a reputation for being social media-savvy. This reputation is helped by its CEO Michael Jordaan who tweets regularly and freely.
At the moment it is unclear what features Nedbank’s app would have, although it would have to have at least as many as the FNB app if it is to have a realistic chance at competing.
Nedbank’s official Twitter account has promised more news later in the day. We’ll report on it as soon as it comes through.
The launch of the app has been delayed, having originally been scheduled for May.
Update:
The rumour seems to be confirmed by this post on their official Facebook page:
