Super Bowl 47: an advertising paradise
Super Bowl. The month of January is a 31 day inconvenience before February ushers in the greatest advertising showcase in American history. If you like, you can watch the football too.
For car makers, it is a chance to out do one another with the most memorable story told in two minutes or less. It’s a big deal. Two years ago Volkswagen’s “Boy Vader” ad tugged at the world’s heartstrings, a veritable win on the cute and creative scale. Last year Chrysler decided that the American people needed to know it was halftime and it was Clint Eastwood’s job to let them know. Pretty powerful stuff.
This year Super Bow 47 brought it with mind-blowing — and some not so mind-blowing — ads, an electric game and a power outage.
This year Mercedes led the way with car ads. The spot for the Mercedes-Benz CLA was deliciously wicked and felt kind of liberating.
There were some really inspiring ads to come out of this year’s Super Bowl. One of the real surprises was Oreo’s “Whisper Fight” from Wieden + Kennedy. The company also included some social play with a call to action to pick a side on Instagram. Doritos’ “Goat4Sale” is chuckle-worthy and of course Amy Poehler’s Best Buy offering just needs to be watched.
So below are some of our favourite ads from Super Bowl Sunday.
