New Yorkers miss chance to grab $60 Banksy originals
If you were in New York recently, you could’ve picked yourself up an original Bansky piece for as little as US$60. The illusive artist set up an ambiguous stall, simply labeled “spray art,” in Central Park.
Over the course of the day, only eight pieces were bought by three customers, for a grand total of US$420.
As The Verge notes, the fact that so many Banksy re-prints are available means that New Yorkers thinking they weren’t originals is entirely understandable.
There was also no publicity from the artist, who only announced that he’d pulled the stunt after the store had closed. One thing’s for sure, the three people who did buy pieces should be congratulating themselves for making the investment of their lives right now.
