Kickstarter’s 80s Brickphone revival
The useless brick phone is back! And doesn’t even work on its own.
The people building the 80’s Retro Brick Bluetooth Handset say they are working very hard. Yes, lots of work necessary to raise something from its well-deserved grave. I thought we’ve moved on from this.
Using Kickstarter as the means to fund the phone, the creators have set the target at US$150 000, and with 26 days to go, they are only on US$3 911. Not entirely hot property then.
Does the fact that they are nowhere near their target say enough? It’s funny and all using a giant phone for a day. I couldn’t imagine it wouldn’t be irritating thereafter.
It’s 13 inches tall from base to antenna for god’s sake. That, on top of the fact you need another handset to connect it to via Bluetooth, means it’s inevitably going to be a lot to haul around.
It could work as a desk phone, though, as it’s undoubtably more comfortable than most of the handsets out there. And it would mean that you wouldn’t need to carry it around with you.
If you feel the need to hark back to the redundant past, head through to Kickstarter and support the 80’s Retro Brick Bluetooth Handset. You can finally get a neon green phone if that suits your fancy.
