Amazon to launch new Kindle Touch with gleaming ‘Paperwhite’ display
At Amazon’s press event next week (6 September to be sure), the new Kindle with a “Paperwhite” display is expected to launch. The device is nothing new, and will most likely be a refreshed Kindle Touch.
Let’s talk Paperwhite first. It’s going to have “high contrast, high resolution” and is most likely Amazon’s stab at creating something a little better, a little brighter than Pearl E Ink technology. Judging by the screenshots below, Paperwhite is going to make one hell of an impact in the eReader market.
“Mostly aesthetic” is a great way to describe the new-look Kindle Touch. What’s changed? The Kindle Touch is now ultra-dark, there’s a lack of a physical home button. Other hardwares interfaces, as noted by The Verge are essentially unchanged. The power switch and USB port are locked into the same position as the last Kindle Touch. Most importantly, the battery will deliver 8 weeks of use, even with the backlight on. We’ll find out more next week at the Amazon press event in Los Angeles.
