Finland hosts World Mobile Phone Throwing Championships
Haven’t found an excuse to chuck your mobile phone in a while? Well, Finland has hosted the 13th annual Mobile Phone Throwing Championships this past weekend, lending people from all over the world the chance to throw their phones, in mock or ernest anger, for some well deserved relief from social obligations.
The event was held in Savonlinna, Finland. The conditions must have been ideal because a new world record was set by Finnish Ere Karjalainen with a huge throw of 101.46 meters, who obviously won the event too. Second place was taken by a South African named Jeremy Gallop with a throw of 94.67m.
The Women’s category was won by Jonna Mattero with an impressive throw of 42.47 m. It was not disclosed as to which mobile phones were used, or whether it was the competitors personal phones or not. In the video you can see the officials taping up some phones to supposedly disguise the phone makes. I did see a Nokia 3310 in there, which would be my first choice of projectile. You wouldn’t see me throwing my iPhone any time soon.
