Benchmarked: iPhone 5 A6 CPU is a 1Ghz dual-core mobile powerhouse

It’s here. This is the first known benchmark of an iPhone 5, care of these hard-working fellas.

Now if the score means nothing to you, that’s fine, it meant nothing to us as well until we discovered that the iPhone 4S scored a 629. Even the iPad 3 with its meagre score of 766 has issues when it comes to topping the iPhone 5. There’s also a full-rundown of all Apple devices, benchmarked here.

Everything else is in order. The ARM chipset, a gig of ram, two cores beating harder and faster than the black heart of the sun, yip Apple’s got it covered hardware wise. This benchmark, no matter how arbitrary it may be, places the iPhone 5 well ahead of any other phone of it’s ilk, especially Android phones. The current fastest Android device, the Nexus 7, scores 1598, which is just a hair under the iPhone 5’s score. The proof’s in the using, so when we get out hands on the iPhone 5, we’ll see if these flashy benchmarks mean more than just numbers.

Update: The Samsung Galaxy S III with the Exynos 4412 CPU was just added to the list and with a score of 1628, it beats the pants off the iPhone 5.
