Samsung Series 9 WQHD ultrabook boasts Retina Display prowess

Fresh from all the legal battles with Apple, Samsung has gone and revealed its Retina Display competitor, the Series 9 WQHD ultrabook. This 13-inch marvel has a screen that could give Apple’s flagship MacBook Pro Retina Display a run for its money.

Samsung’s Series 9 WQHD has a matte screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 for its 13-inch display. This is compared to the Retina’s 2880×1800. While not having the same amount of pixels as the Retina, the Series 9 WQHD actually has greater pixels-per-inch (ppi). The Apple has to make do with 221ppi, while the Samsung gets 226ppi. It may not seems like much, but it makes the two screens almost indistinguishable.

It’s good to see that Microsoft hasn’t held back on its side, as the Windows 8 used on the Series 9 gives justice to that great screen. The Series 9 WQHD will also get Ivy Bridge processors to back up the screen with equal performance.

Funny enough, Apple may beat Samsung to the punch, as it is said that Apple may be releasing a 13-inch Retina Display MacBook Pro in October. It is well-known that Apple uses Samsung hardware from time to time, so it would be quite a cheek to see it using these screens before Samsung has a chance.
