The best Windows laptop on the planet is…a Mac
Well this is one for the books. Forget your Dells, HPs and Asuses, the best laptop for running Windows on is a Mac.
To be precise, it’s a mid 2012 13-inch Macbook pro and, according to Soluto (the company which has come to this conclusion), it’s because Microsoft’s OS installs cleaner on the Apple device than any other. It’s not Microsoft’s fault though. The real problem, apparently lies with the manufacturers:
A main factor in this machine’s metrics is the fact that every Windows installation on it is clean. With PC manufacturers loading so much crapware on new laptops, this is a bit of an unfair competition. But, on the other hand, PC makers should look at this data and aspire to ship PCs that perform just as well as a cleanly installed MacBook Pro.
Interestingly cost doesn’t seem to equate to better performance either. Sitting just below the US$1 200 Mac is a US$429 Acer. It also turns out that bigger, newer Macs aren’t always better either. The 15-inch Retina display Macbook Pro sits at sixth on the list behind another Acer, and above a Dell. That’s not exactly surprising though, Dell makes five of the best 10 laptops on Soluto’s list, while Acer and Apple have two entries each.
This report is based on Soluto’s big-data frustration analytics. It is based on long-term, ongoing analysis of a large number of PCs, and reportedly takes into account events such as application crashes, application hangs, blue-screens-of-death, long boot times and excessive number of background processes.
While we love the Macbook, it would be foolhardy of us to suggest that any dedicated Windows users rush out, buy one and install Windows on it. If you’ve got the money, fine spend it as you please. If you’re the kind of person who lives on cheese and crackers at the end of the month though, the Acer is probably the better option.
