ASUS announces VivoPC: the small, silver, stylish home entertainment unit
We just can’t get enough of ASUS‘ announcements at Computex 2013. The company curiously announced the VivoPC — a small and stylish home entertainment system. The VivoPC was announced alongside the touchpad/wireless mouse called the VivoMouse yesterday.
While some of the inside specs remain behind curtains, ASUS emphasizes the small Windows 8 device will deliver “high quality sound.” VivoPC has SonicMaster audio and accelerated connectivity via 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
Based on appearances, the VivoPC almost looks like a MAC Mini. Although it’s sleek metallic body makes it look a bit more aggressive. This mini square computer is only 56mm tall and, as ASUS puts it, a mere “footprint smaller than a sheet of A4 paper.”
We do know that this PC will host an Intel CPU (which one, no one knows) and integrated graphics. It’s extremely friendly when it comes to hosting ports, however. It also has two internal memory slots that supports SSD as well as regular hard drives. It has a total of six USB ports– two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0. It also packs a dedicated HDMI and VGA.
As mentioned above, the VivoPC was announced alongside the VivoMouse. As the VivoMouse fuses a touchpad and a mouse, the VivoPC seems to be fusing vidoe streaming with gaming and web browsing.
This combination of PC and television entertainment gives you a “high-performance 802.11ac Wi-Fi for smooth HD video streaming and seamless web browsing.” The design and timely announcement of the VivoPC boldly steps into market where both gaming and streaming entertainment are slowly becoming the norm. More specifically, it’s the market Xbox One seems to be trying to get a grip on.
There’s no word on pricing as of yet but both the ASUS VivoMouse and VivoPC will be available in somewhere between July and September this year.
