India’s Xolo launches Tegra 3 powered Play T1000 for $270
Nvidia seems to be on to something. First, we heard about the Geek carrying Tegra 4 that launched in China yesterday. Now, we see Tegra 3 being launched Xolo in India. This makes it the first the Xolo Play T1000 the first Tegra 3 based mobile device to be sold in India and with that a decent price.
While many users often complain about their Tegra devices heating up too quick or killing batteries too easily, no one can doubt its processing power.
Popular 2012 titles such as Riptide, Dead Trigger or GTAIII should all run smoothly on the Xolo Play. Already though, there are games aiming for Tegra 4 such as Burn Zombie Burn which is also available on the PC or PS3. Other titles include exciting features such Dead Trigger 2.
The Play hosts a decent quad-core together with a 4.7-inch 720p LCD screen. Although meant for mainly playing games, it carries a decent 8MP rear camera as well as a 2MP front.
It also has an expandable storage option that’s very welcome considering you’ll have 4GB on board. The battery (which is usually a problem) is a 2 000 mAh while also powering 1GB of RAM.
As Engadget reports, the price would be what attracts people the most. For the time being, its retail price goes for US$268 (about R2650).
Though the price is worthy of a device arriving a bit late at the party, the question is if the party is still going? Is the gaming world not ready to move on from Tegra 3 now that Tegra 4 is being hyped up? Not to even mention the Snapdragon 800. But then again, do people really want to buy an expensive phone or tablet sporting Tegra 4? People will anyway simply flock to play Angry Birds in the end.
Here’s a full on comparison of Tegra 3 and 4. The details are massive:
