iOS 7 Beta 6 is ready for download

iOS 7 Beta 6
If you’re part of the Apple Developer program and want iOS7 Beta 6 (which rolled out today), then click on over to the iOS 7 developers site and grab the new update, right now. 9to5mac reports that the sixth beta of iOS 7 is available and contains “bug fixes and improvements”. The beta has just been released, so there’s no detailed news on what bugs it fixes or what improvement it makes.

What details we know come from 9to5mac, again. According to the site, the 13.5mb update fixes an issue with iTunes accessing iCloud. Apple lays out detailed instructions for those who want to update:

This update addresses an issue with iTunes in the Cloud, where some purchases may download or play unexpected items. If you have any devices running previous versions of iOS 7 beta, you must:

  1. Install iOS 7 beta 6
  2. Install the ResetMusicAndVideosLibraries configuration profile
  3. From Settings > Music, tap the Reset Media Library button
  4. Restart the device

This update comes as something of a happy surprise, as most sites said that it would only release next week. This report from BGR, hints that Beta 6 may be the last before iOS 7 goes gold. On 5 September (the same time as the reported iPhone 5C launch), gold master (GM) copies will be seeded to employees and partners. And then, this happens:

After Apple and its partners are comfortable with the gold master build, the company will release it to developers on September 10th, the day of the company’s iPhone event where we should see the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C make their first appearances — and they will of course be the first devices to run iOS 7 out of the box.

Some users report that the lock sound, which was absent from some phones after the iOS 7 Beta 5 update, is now mysteriously back. Other users say that the iCloud keychain can be activated again. Overall, there’s a plethora of bugs to still work out of the system so update at your own risk. But if you’re a developer, then risk is already part of your life. For everyone else, practice safe updating.
