Battlefield 4 is so close we can taste it. Today, EA announced that upcoming online multiplayer shooter, Battlefield 4, is coming in Beta version on 4 Oct for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. It’s an open beta that’s timed first for those of you who pre-ordered Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition, or own Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition. The beta includes one map, “Siege of Shanghai” which can be played in Domination or Conquest mode.

This is the new trailer for Battlefield 4 multiplayer. It all sounds fun and exciting until the word “Levolution” gets thrown around. Levolution is Battlefield 4’s take on the evolving war and it looks like a ton of fun, just why does the buzzword have to be so horrendous? It sounds like a perfume brand. In the video, Levolution (which is in reality just terrain deformation) is shown hard at work. A dam is shot at, explodes and transforms the level into a sub-aquatic experience.

In another scene from the trailer, a skyscraper is levelled and collapses over the entirety of the battleground. It’s spectacular stuff, and it plays into the dynamics of the level very well.

The Battlelog, Battlefield 4’s “storage locker” that keeps track of every single player aspect such as weapon upgrades, promotions and kills, gets a major overhaul and is seen in full view on the main menu. It’s handy to keep track of these stats when the game is filled with so many cool, random events.

The launch date of the retail copy of Battlefield 4 drops 29 October for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Then it’s PS4 on 12 November, followed by Xbox One on 19 November. If you already own Battlefield 4 on an older console, you’ll be able to upgrade to the next-gen Battlefield for “as little as US$9.99” says EA. Either way, we can’t freaking wait.
