First ‘Thief’ gameplay trailer is very ‘Dishonored’ in style
Does any of this look… familiar to you? The first gameplay trailer for the new Thief is out and yes, it bares more than a striking resemblance to the current king of sneak and stab-em-ups, Dishonored.
It’s a cool slice of gameplay at least. Garret the master thief is tasked with breaking into a manor and stealing its “heart” which is just a cool word for big, bloody diamond. Then, he’s got to break out again. Sounds simple, but Thief never is. It also looks like the latest Thief has taken a leaf from most modern first-person games. Controls looks slick, the graphics and animation are all smooth as butter and there’s barely a UI to be seen.
Back to this Dishonored issue. The new Thief, now that we’ve seen the gameplay, looks a lot like it. Dishonored is a grand adventure on a small-scale, but it sets the bar for all first-person sneaking games. The way garret steals pockets of coins, jumps to scale walls and clambers over objects looks very much like Bethesda’s 2012 hit. When Thief releases next year, we’ll see if it can steal itself from Dishonored’s shadow.
Thief releases on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One 25 February 2014 in North America, and 28 February 2014 in Europe.
