LG drops it like a ‘G Flex’: curved phone with ‘self healing’ rear now official
After some leaks, LG has now officially announced its curved smartphone and promises both luxurious form and function. It also has a very curious “self-healing” back that’s meant to repair itself against scratches and such over time.
The G Flex has a 6″ Plastic OLED display with a 1280×720 resolution. Performance-wise, it has 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage accompanied by 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. It’s running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and is LTE-capable. With a 3,500 mAh battery LG claims to give you power for longer than 24 hours.
LG touts the luxury of form and function as the curvature of the G Flex supposedly reduces the distance between one’s mouth to the microphone when the device is held against the ear, while giving you a better viewing experience.
The G Flex’s design is meant to be more comfortable as the curvature is optimized for the average face as well as the average butt cheek. The company says that the design of the smartphone will make for a “reassuring grip and fits more comfortably” in one’s back pocket.
Furthermore, the curvature enhances your experience when watching movies and playing games. LG says it will to give you an “IMAX-like” experience. It weighs 177g and is between 7.9 and 8.7mm thick compared to the G2, which is 8.9mm.
Like the G2, there are no side buttons but rather a Rear Key with a multicolour LED that can, for instance, glow green when it detects a face when you’re taking photos. Speaking of photos, the G Flex has a 13MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front facing one.
Then apart from the smartphone’s unique form, the LG G Flex an interesting elastic coating that has the “ability to recover from the daily wear-and-tear scratches and nicks that un-cased smartphones are likely to receive.” Self-healing, what? It’s only available in the one dark silver colour, namely Titan Silver.
The LG G Flex will be coming to South Korean outlets next month with no word on international release yet.
