Sunflex’s ‘unu’ is a three-in-one Android console entertainment hub for $200
The “unu” (no capital “U” apparently) wants to bring out the most of what Android has to offer. It calls itself a tablet, smart TV and a gaming console. It all sounds amazing and goes for only US$200. While the launch date has been somewhat bumpy because of delays, it is now set to be shipping next month with pre-orders now available.
This three-in-one Android 4.2 hybrid tablet hosts three peripheral devices including a docking station, a motion controller remote air mouse and a console controller. The console controller is paired with the Gaming Edition which makes the whole package US$50 more expensive.
This price, at US$250, will make the unu compete head-on with the likes of Mad Catz Mojo, Ouya and GameStick which are all less than US$100.
The actual tablet carries 1280 x 800-pixel 7-inch display, 2MP and 5MP cameras, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, an HDMI output, 2 USB ports and extra support for up to 64GB microSD cards. It then also has a 1.6 GHZ quad-core processor
You can pair the unu with any TV by using the dock. It then transforms into a smart TV, voila! You can then use the bluetooth air mouse to navigate web pages and play games. The air mouse also has a welcome QWERTY keyboard on its back.
Nicki Repenning, vice president of business development at Sunflex says the company wants to bring out the most of what Android has to offer:
“The tablet is one of the most exciting consumer technologies in the last 50 years, but we knew it could and should do more. So, we built a custom smart TV user interface and two different controllers to match up with every entertainment experience found on the Google Play Store. That’s how unu was born.”
That’s all good and well and certainly experimenting with an interesting standard for others to compete with but it’s all going to be in the proof of the pudding. The tablet’s specs are what’s really going to make or break it.
What do you think, is the all-round tablet-media-gaming hybrid appealing enough? At US$200 or US$250 it really should be.
