Xbox One-exclusive ‘Sunset Overdrive’ wreaks havoc in first gameplay video
Insomniac Games has finally published its much anticipated first-play video for Sunset Overdrive, its exclusive Xbox One title.
And it’s absolutely insane.
Sunset Overdrive, announced by Insomniac at Microsoft’s E3 last year, isn’t just a typical, dull zombie shooter with a narrow focus. In Sunset City the gamer makes the rules in a vast post-apocalyptic fun land, say the eager press releases.
The Xbox Wire couldn’t explain the game any better.
“The fictional world of Sunset City might seem like a nice place to grab a drink with friends, but it most certainly is not. In fact, as home to the world’s largest beverage producer, Fizzco, it’s the epicenter of the apocalypse. The disaster begins when a bad batch of the company’s energy drink, Overcharge Delirium XG, infects those attending a party to celebrate its launch. It turns them into zombie mutants of various shapes and sizes, which leaves you with two jobs: killing zombies, and having plenty of fun doing it.”
The four minute video shows a world saturated with colour, motion and genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Velocity and firepower are the gamer’s two best friends, the former allowing the character to grind along walls and telephone poles like Tony Hawk.
And the firepower?
Think of guns that dispatch dynamite-laden teddy bears or, if you hold out for the exclusive “Day One Edition,” a vinyl-record launching “Nothin’ but the Hits” gun. If those aren’t enough, the “Amps” system allows the gamer to supercharge any weapon with a recipe and a can of Overcharge.
Insomniac and Microsoft remain coy about the title’s much anticipated release date, but an official announcement should be made in the near future. If you can’t wait, it is available for pre-order on its official website.
