‘Mortal Kombat X’ will reportedly have no platform-exclusive characters

Finally, it seems that some sanity has prevailed in the console gaming world. The executive producer of Mortal Kombat X — one of 2015’s most eagerly anticipated games — has announced that there will be no console-exclusive content for gamers to fight about off-screen.

Shaun Himmerick, in conversation with Hardcore Gamer, has suggested that platform specific players will not feature in the game, meaning that Xbox users will get what PlayStation users get, and vice versa. This will bear true to other platforms of the game as well.

Currently the only playable-by-pre-order character in the game is Goro who will feature across all platforms, should one feels the need to pre-order the title. If you remember the very first Mortal Kombat, he was quite the bad-ass four-armed monstrosity who was sadly unplayable.

Some gamers would probably believe that Goro should be baked into the game regardless of how its obtained, but of course even NetherRealm needs to give gamers some incentive to pre-order.

Previously the enigmatic creator of the series Ed Boon suggested that there might very well be console-exclusive characters in the game and that the ice-cream truck driving Sweet Tooth might make a Sony-only appearance.

This has now (thankfully) pretty much been rubbished by Himmerick.

There’s plenty of things to get excited about though. Using a modded version of Unreal Engine 4, the game looks truly spectacular and is an absolute hoot to play. Alongside integrated environments and even more gruesome fatalities, the game will probably one of the releases of 2015.

Be warned, the video below is a little NSFW.

What do you think about the lack of platform-specific players? Do you think Goro should’ve been baked into the game from the get go? Let us know in the comments below.
