If the latest report from the Korea Times is anything to go by, then Samsung executives must be high-fiving themselves behind closed doors back in Seoul. The company has allegedly garnered over 20-million pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge combined since the duos announcement just over a week ago in Barcelona.
That’s a massive win in any company’s books, and makes a serious dent in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus‘s sales figure of 75-million since Apple’s launch back in September 2014. The Samsung Galaxy S6 received 15-million pre-order requests, while the slightly more expensive and experimental Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge received 5-million. Both rather respectable figures.
It’s important to reiterate that these numbers come just over a week since the phones’ launches too.
There’s also a swathe of positive feedback from the likes of analysts, notes the report. The most interesting comment coming from Mark C. Newman, at Bernstein Research:
We think the components side of the S6 is more positive for Samsung’s earnings direction, with the processor moving internally (saving potentially $28 a phone), significantly more memory (DRAM and particularly NAND) and the display showing off their technology lead in flexible OLED.
Perhaps developing Apple’s A-series chips for such a long time is a blessing in disguise for Samsung. Of course, pre-orders are one thing, but what about feet through the door once the Samsung Galaxy S6 series physically arrives in stores?
The advantage that the iPhone 6 has garnered a solid reputation in the past few months. Does Samsung possess the same cult following? It’s debatable, but perhaps the S6 series are the phones to do just that.
