Microsoft Windows 10 will be sold on convenient USB drives

In a show of how hip and happening Microsoft‘s new tech outlook is, the company will be offering Windows 10 on USB flash drives for the first time in its OS release history, as well as more traditional means.

“Windows 10 will be available on USB drives for purchase in retail channels shortly after launch,” the company told VentureBeat.

The drives have been available on Amazon for pre-order, starting at US$120 for the Home edition and US$200 for the Pro version, which will pack a few more goodies than the standard breed.

It’s a suave move from the company considering that many devices now retail without optical drives at all. This essentially means that you don’t necessarily need a disc drive in your computer to install Windows 10. Microsoft can now reach a broader audience and accommodate their needs as well.

Previous iterations of Windows did make it difficult for users to install the OS, and perhaps more importantly, use the OS (we’re looking at you, Windows 8).

Of course, those running Windows 7 and higher legally will be eligible for a free upgrade. If you’re a Windows 10 Insider, that deal applies too. Unfortunately, if you’re still stuck in the early 2000s with Windows XP or Vista, you’ll need to purchase Windows 10.

Microsoft’s new and arguably most important operating system in many a year will be launched officially on 29 July.
