Megarom, Orena reveal South African Overwatch Ladder competition for PC, PS4

Video game distributor Megarom Interactive, along with gaming brand SteelSeries, and Orena have announced an Overwatch Champions Ladder competition for SA.

The competition will be split into three seasons and allow SA teams to compete for rankings on a daily basis. Teams will be competing for R30 000 worth of prizes.

In a press release sent to Gearburn, CEO of Orena, says: “We’re ecstatic to have Overwatch as an official title on the Orena ranking system. With this being the first Blizzard title on the Orena platform, we look forward to dealing with something fresh and that has been so well received on the “eSports circuit.””

The top four teams per season will compete in a Single Elimination Battle Royale, which will take place on the last Sunday of each season.

The first season will be focussed on PC and take place from 13 June until 1 August. The second season will run from 8 August until 3 October and consist of only PlayStation 4 matches. Season 3 will be PC-orientated once again, running from 10 October to 5 December.

Games will be streamed live on Orena’s Twitch channel every Monday and Wednesday during the seasons. They will be shoutcasted by Kyle “Congo” Wolmarans and Lutz “crazymonkey” Ngqkakaza.

“Overwatch has already created a lot of hype in the community, and we hope to add fuel to this fire and encourage all forms of gamers to #RISEUP and take the challenge,” says brand manager for SteelSeries in SA, Alan Spohr.
