Android Wear 2.0 delayed until early 2017

Sad news for Android smartwatch users: Android Wear 2.0 has been pushed back to early 2017. This according to a new blog post on Google‘s Android Developer blog.

“We’ve gotten tons of great feedback from the developer community about Android Wear 2.0–thank you! We’ve decided to continue the preview program into early 2017, at which point the first watches will receive Android Wear 2.0,” wrote developer advocate, Hoi Lam in a blog post.

The update which was scheduled for this year was pushed back to quash final bugs to deliver a complete system. However, the Developer Preview 3 has been released, to soothe the ache of having to wait a few more months.

Google will now launch Android Wear 2.0 early 2017

The Developer Preview 3 will require the latest version of the Android Wear App installed on your phone. If you’re interested in installing it, it will also require you to “flash your watch to the latest preview release, and use the phone app to add a Google Account to your watch,” continued Lam.

Android Wear 2.0 adds a number of features to Google’s smartwatch platforms, including a tweaked interface, better integration with circular watch faces and better phone-to-watch-app integration.
