The Mi 5 (review) might just be the most affordable flagship smartphone in South Africa right now, starting out at R7999. By comparison, high-end devices from Samsung, Huawei, Apple and others all breach the R10 000 mark.
Now, the company has teased the Mi 5s, Chinese publication CC Time reports, with a new image displaying the figure “164 119”. This figure is believed to be the Antutu benchmark score for the new smartphone.
Alongside the figure is a tagline, saying “in addition to performance, what else?”. Or at least that’s what Google Translate thinks.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s is rumoured to be equipped with a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4 or 6GB of RAM and a 5.1-inch full HD display.
However, probably the coolest feature, if true, would have to be an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner positioned underneath the display. This would quite possibly be the first implementation of a fingerprint scanner like this, making for a rather innovative move if confirmed.
Either way, all will be revealed by Xiaomi on 27 September.
