There was a Silent Hill arcade game and it’s gloriously terrible

Remember the survival horror series Silent Hill? Yes, that one that broke ground in the horror genre with its first and second games. While Konami tries to forget that it exists, we remember all of the titles from the franchise; even the arcade game. And, yes, it’s as bad as you think it is.

Silent Hill: The Arcade was released in 2007 in Japan and later in 2008 in Europe. It’s a two-player on-rails light-game shooter, much like House of the Dead or Virtua Cop. Remember when Silent Hill was all about psychological horror and the torment of the protagonist? Yeah, well in this game all you’re doing is shooting everything that moves.

Don’t expect any kind of competent voice work or acting out of the game, either. It’s filled wish such gems as, “Hey we can get back alive, right?” which is followed by “No way, we cannot die.” That’s just Oscar-winning material right there.
